Chris Smith

Mr. Smith

I am in my seventeenth years as an educator. This is my second year as a Santa Fe Intermediate School staff member and as a computer teacher. I have had many  hats as an educator and a coach. After graduating from Fort Hays State University in 1997 I accepted my first job in the small Western Kansas town of Ransom where I spent five years teaching Science, Physical Education, Driver Education, and coaching several sports. In 2002 I moved to Dodge City where I taught Junior High Science and coached Basketball and Track  for two years. After two years in Dodge City I transferred to Winfield, Kansas were I taught Physical Education and coached Cross-Country and Track for eight years.

I look forward to the opportunity to grow as an educator in the Newton School District. Many of the skills I am teaching are new to me as well the students. It is both fun and exciting to explore and learn so many new skills.

Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my boys Cameron and Emery, playing disc golf, and exercising.

Great Quotes from one of the greatest teachers and coaches of all time:

  • “Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.”
  • “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
  • “The people who turn out best are those people who make the best out of the way things turn out.”
  • “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.”
  • “If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?”
  • “You can’t live a perfect day until you do something for someone who will never be able to repay you.”
  • “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”
  • “It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.
